In 1944, Sergio Osmeña became President of the Philippines. He assumed the presidency after the death of Manuel L. Quezon, who had been elected to a second term in 1941 but died in exile in the United States in 1944. Osmeña served as President until 1946, when he was succeeded by Manuel Roxas.
