Answer
Ali Höhler, a German locksmith, and member of the SA, the paramilitary wing of the Nazi Party, murdered Horst Wessel, a Nazi propaganda icon, on 23 February 1930. Höhler shot Wessel in the head after a heated argument over a prostitute named Erna Jänicke. The incident was exploited by the Nazi propaganda machine to portray Wessel as a martyr and to galvanize support for the party.
