Anthony of Padua was born as Fernando Martins de Bulhões. He was a Portuguese priest and friar of the Franciscan Order, and later a cardinal. He was one of the most popular saints in the Roman Catholic Church, and he is venerated in both the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church. He is best known for his work as a preacher and his devotion to the poor.
