Operation Tractable, commanded by General Guy Simonds under the First Canadian Army of Lt.-Gen. Harry Crerar, was an offensive launched on 14 August 1944, as part of the Allied advance from Caen in the aftermath of the Normandy invasion. The main objectives were to capture the high ground near Falaise and Trun in France, cutting off the German Seventh Army's line of retreat and encircling several German divisions.
