Vincent Auriol became President of France in 1947. He was a member of the French Socialist Party and served as President from 1947 to 1954. During his presidency, he oversaw the reconstruction of France after World War II and the establishment of the Fourth Republic. He also played a key role in the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community, which was a precursor to the European Union.
