Victoria Woodhull was a candidate for the U.S. presidency in 1872 on the Equal Rights Party ticket. She was the first woman to run for president of the United States. She also ran for the U.S. Senate in 1870, becoming the first woman to run for a major U.S. political office. Woodhull was a social reformer and women's rights advocate.
