How did Molotov react to Stalin's death in 1953?

  • He supported de-Stalinization

  • He held a celebratory party

  • He opposed de-Stalinization

  • He remained indifferent

Answer

He opposed de-Stalinization. When Stalin died, the new Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev began to take steps to reverse some of the policies of his predecessor. These steps, known as de-Stalinization, were met with opposition from some Soviet leaders, including Molotov. Molotov argued that Stalin's policies had been necessary to defend the Soviet Union from its enemies, and that de-Stalinization would weaken the country.
