After Stalin's death in 1953, Nikita Khrushchev and the new Soviet leadership began a de-Stalinization campaign, in which they denounced Stalin's rule and rehabilitated many of his victims. Molotov was one of the people who was rehabilitated, and he was readmitted to the Communist Party in 1984.
