Molotov was the principal Soviet signatory to the German-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact. This was a secret agreement between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany in which the two countries agreed to not attack each other. The pact was signed on August 23, 1939, and it lasted for one year. It was broken by Germany when it invaded the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941.
