Molotov was a member of the Old Bolsheviks, who were the first members of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU). They were called the Old Bolsheviks because they had been members of the party since its founding in 1912. The Old Bolsheviks were a powerful group within the CPSU and they played a key role in the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917.
