Warren E. Burger's majority opinion in INS v. Chadha struck down what?

  • The one-house legislative veto

  • The two-house legislative veto

  • The executive veto

  • The judicial veto

Answer

The one-house legislative veto was a power given to one chamber of Congress to overturn actions of the other chamber, or of the executive branch, without the involvement of the president. In the 1983 case of INS v. Chadha, the Supreme Court ruled that this power was unconstitutional because it violated the separation of powers principle. The decision effectively ended the practice of one-house legislative vetoes.
