Wilhelm Röntgen was a German physicist and inventor who discovered X-rays in 1895. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901 for this discovery. Röntgen was born in Lennep, Prussia, on March 27, 1845. He studied physics at the University of Zurich and the University of Würzburg. After graduating, he worked as a physics professor at the University of Giessen and the University of Würzburg.
