William Buckland was a British geologist and paleontologist who is famous for writing the first full account of a Megalosaurus. Megalosaurus was a large, carnivorous dinosaur that lived during the Jurassic period. Buckland's account of Megalosaurus was based on a partial skeleton that he discovered in 1824. The skeleton was found in a quarry near Stonesfield, Oxfordshire, England.
