Kidd's trial was held in London, England, in 1701. He was accused of piracy, particularly attacking a number of ships off the coast of India in 1697 and 1698. Despite his claims that he was acting under the authority granted by the English government, he was found guilty and executed in Wapping. Kidd's capture and trial became highly publicized, generating much public interest and scrutiny.
