Answer
Argon was the first gas isolated by Ramsay. In 1894, while studying the gas remaining after removing oxygen and nitrogen from air, he identified a new element that was inert and colorless. Ramsay named this element argon, derived from the Greek word "argos," meaning "lazy" or "inactive," due to its lack of reactivity.
