Xuanzang, a Chinese monk, studied with Śīlabhadra at the Nalanda monastery. Xuanzang arrived at Nalanda in 637 CE and remained there for 15 years, studying a variety of subjects, including Buddhist philosophy, Sanskrit grammar, and medicine. He was deeply impressed by Śīlabhadra's knowledge and wisdom, and he later wrote that Śīlabhadra was "the greatest teacher of the age".
