Xuanzang was born in 602 in the Sui Dynasty. He was a Chinese Buddhist monk who traveled to India to study Buddhism. He spent 17 years in India, and returned to China in 645 with 657 Sanskrit texts. He translated many of these texts into Chinese, and his work had a major influence on the development of Chinese Buddhism.
