Chen Hui was the birthname of the famous Buddhist monk Xuanzang. He was born in Henan, China in 602. He became a monk at the age of 13 and traveled to India to study Buddhism. He spent 17 years in India and returned to China in 645. He translated many Buddhist texts into Chinese and became one of the most important figures in the transmission of Buddhism to China.
