Yemelyan Pugachev was executed in 1775, after a series of uprisings against Russian autocracy. He was a Cossack leader who claimed to be Peter III, the deposed Russian emperor. His rebellion spread across the Urals and Volga regions, but was eventually put down by the Russian army. Pugachev was captured and executed in Moscow.
