Sékou Touré was the president of the PDG party from 1952 to 1984. He was a key figure in the Guinean independence movement and became the first president of Guinea after it gained independence from France in 1958. Touré was a staunch anti-imperialist and a supporter of pan-Africanism. He was also a controversial figure, who was accused of human rights abuses.
