Answer
Alija Izetbegović, the first president of Bosnia and Herzegovina, first stood alongside Croat forces during the Bosnian War. Izetbegović and the Croats initially agreed to work together in order to defeat the Bosnian Serbs, but the alliance soon fell apart due to ethnic and political differences. Izetbegović ultimately sided with the Bosnian Muslims in the war, while the Croats allied with the Bosnian Serbs.
