Atambayev ended his term as Kyrgyzstan's president on 24 November 2017. He had been president since 2005, and was one of the longest-serving presidents in Central Asia. Atambayev's term was marked by economic growth and stability, but also by corruption and political repression. He was succeeded by Sooronbay Jeenbekov.
