Aung San is considered the founder of modern-day Myanmar (formerly Burma) and the Tatmadaw, the armed forces of Myanmar. He was a prominent nationalist leader who fought for Burmese independence from the British Empire. He was assassinated in 1947, just a few months before Myanmar achieved independence.
