Bảo Đại was the 13th Emperor of Vietnam, and the last to rule from 1931 to 1945. During his reign, Vietnam was under the rule of France. After the Japanese occupation of Vietnam in 1940, Bảo Đại collaborated with the Japanese. In 1945, he was forced to abdicate by the Viet Minh. He then lived in exile in France until his death in 1997.
