C. Rajagopalachari was educated at Central College, Bangalore, and Presidency College, Madras. He studied law at the University of Madras, and was called to the bar in 1905. He practiced law in Madras for several years, before becoming involved in politics. He was a member of the Indian National Congress, and served as the first Indian Governor-General of independent India from 1948 to 1950.
