Carl Czerny passed away on 15 July 1857, at the age of 70. He was a Bohemian-born pianist and composer who is best known for his Czerny Studies, a series of exercises that are still used by many piano students today. Czerny was also a teacher, and his students included Frédéric Chopin, Franz Liszt, and Clara Schumann.
