Sri Lanka has had one female president, Chandrika Kumaratunga, who served from 1994 to 2005. She was the first female president of Sri Lanka and the second female president in South Asia, after Benazir Bhutto of Pakistan. Kumaratunga's presidency was marked by the end of the Sri Lankan Civil War and the implementation of a number of economic and social reforms.
