Answer
Constance Markievicz was an Irish nationalist and suffragette who refused to take her seat in the UK House of Commons in 1918, instead helping to form the first Dáil Éireann, or Irish parliament. She was the first woman to be elected to the House of Commons, but did not take her seat as she considered it to be an illegitimate body.
