Yes, James Bridges was a Civil War veteran. Bridges served as a first lieutenant in the 8th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment and was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions at the Battle of Gettysburg in July 1863. He was one of only two African American soldiers from the 8th Massachusetts to receive the Medal of Honor.
