Dietrich Bonhoeffer was executed during the collapse of the Nazi regime in 1945. He had been a vocal critic of the Nazis and had been involved in a plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler. Bonhoeffer was arrested in 1943 and imprisoned in several concentration camps. He was eventually hanged at Flossenbürg concentration camp on April 9, 1945.
