Who succeeded him as Lord Protector?

  • Edward VI

  • John Dudley

  • Charles Brandon

  • Thomas Cromwell

Answer

After Edward VI died in 1553, John Dudley, the Duke of Northumberland, succeeded him as Lord Protector. Dudley was a powerful nobleman who had supported the king's marriage to Lady Jane Grey. After Edward's death, Dudley tried to have Jane declared queen, but she was deposed by Mary Tudor, Edward's half-sister. Dudley was executed for treason in 1553.
