Ealhswith was the wife of Alfred the Great, King of Wessex. She was the daughter of Æthelred Mucel, ealdorman of the Gaini, and his wife Osburh. Ealhswith married Alfred in 868, and they had five children: Edward the Elder, Æthelweard, Æthelflæd, Æthelburg, and Ælfthryth. Ealhswith was a devout Christian, and she is credited with helping to spread Christianity in England. She died in 902, and was buried in Winchester.
