Answer
Venizelos's defeat in the 1920 General Election contributed to the Greek defeat in the Greco-Turkish War. The war began when the Greek army invaded Turkey, hoping to establish a Greater Greece, but the Turkish army drove the Greeks back to the Aegean Sea. The defeat of the Greek army led to the deaths of thousands of Greek soldiers and the destruction of much of the Greek economy.
