Answer
Zimbabwe achieved recognized independence after the Lancaster House Agreement, which was signed on 21 December 1979. The agreement provided for a ceasefire between the Zimbabwean government and the rebel Zimbabwe African National Liberation Army (ZANLA), and set up a transitional government that would oversee the country's transition to independence. The agreement also established a constitution for Zimbabwe, which was approved by a referendum in 1980.
