Eric Cornell and his team created the first Bose–Einstein condensate in 1995. A Bose–Einstein condensate is a state of matter in which all the atoms of a gas have the same quantum state. This occurs when the temperature of the gas is lowered to a very low level, and the gas is then placed in a vacuum.
