James Earle was elected a surgeon at St Bartholomew's Hospital in 1784. He was a noted surgeon and anatomist, and was instrumental in the development of surgery as a profession. Earle was also a member of the Royal College of Surgeons, and was President of the Society of Apothecaries in 1804.
