Redi was an Italian physician and biologist. He was one of the first scientists to conduct controlled experiments. He disproved Theory that vipers could break glasses by filling glasses with wine and placing them in a cage with vipers. The vipers did not break the glasses. Redi's experiments helped to establish the scientific method as a way to test scientific theories.
