Youlou resigned due to overwhelming opposition to his governance. This opposition was rooted in Youlou's authoritarian and corrupt rule, as well as his attempts to centralize power and marginalize opposition groups. In addition, Youlou's policies alienated many key segments of the population, including the urban middle class, the military, and the Catholic Church. As a result, Youlou's government became increasingly unstable, and he was eventually forced to resign in 1963.
