The Hohenzollern dynasty ruled Germany from 1871 until 1918, when the monarchy was overthrown after World War I. The dynasty was founded in 1415 by Count Frederick I of Hohenzollern-Ansbach, and its members ruled the Kingdom of Prussia from 1701 to 1918. In 1871, Prussian King Wilhelm I became the first German emperor, and the Hohenzollern dynasty continued to rule Germany until the end of World War I.
