Gustaf VI Adolf was particularly interested in Ancient Italian cultures. He studied Latin and Italian as a boy and was a keen archaeologist, supporting archaeological expeditions in Italy and Sicily. He was also interested in classical art and architecture, and commissioned a number of copies of Roman sculptures to be placed in public places in Sweden.
