Fuad I was the ruler of Egypt and Sudan from 1917 to 1936. He was born in Cairo in 1868 and was the son of Khedive Ismail Pasha. Fuad I was a member of the Muhammad Ali dynasty and was the first Egyptian monarch to be crowned king. He was a strong supporter of Egyptian independence and worked to modernize the country.
