Henry III became King of Italy after Conrad II's death in 1039. He was a member of the Salian dynasty and had been elected as king by the German princes in 1028. Henry III was a strong ruler and was able to consolidate his power in Germany and Italy. He also expanded the Holy Roman Empire by conquering Bohemia and Poland.
