At the age of 22, Henry III was bestowed with the Duchy of Swabia and Kingdom of Burgundy. This was after the death of his father, Frederick Barbarossa, who had been the Holy Roman Emperor. Henry III was the only surviving son of Frederick Barbarossa, so he inherited all of his father's titles and lands.
