Answer
The annexation of Korea by the Empire of Japan occurred in 1910, following the death of Itō Hirobumi, a Japanese statesman and diplomat. Itō had been the prime minister of Japan and had negotiated the Treaty of Annexation of Korea in 1905, which made Korea a protectorate of Japan. Following Itō's death, the Japanese government took advantage of the political instability in Korea to annex the country.
