Horace Smith-Dorrien died on 28 February 1930 at the age of 82 in Bournemouth, England. He was a British Army general who fought in the Second Boer War and World War I. He was also a recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
