Shortly before the end of World War II, Imre Nagy returned to Hungary. He had been living in Moscow, where he had worked as an official for the Soviet government. Nagy was a Communist, and he believed that Hungary should be a Communist country. When he returned to Hungary, he became involved in the resistance movement against the German occupation. After the war, Nagy became prime minister of Hungary.
