What role did Isabella play in Edward II's patronage of Piers Gaveston?

  • She opposed it

  • She encouraged it

  • She was indifferent to it

  • She supported it

Answer

Isabella, Edward II's second wife, supported his patronage of Piers Gaveston. Gaveston was a close friend and confidant of the king, and Isabella initially approved of their relationship. However, she later came to resent Gaveston, and their relationship became strained. In 1307, Isabella and her lover Roger Mortimer conspired to have Gaveston killed. After Gaveston's death, Isabella and Mortimer took control of the government and exiled Edward II.
