Who was Yamamoto's successor as Commander-in-Chief of the Combined Fleet?

  • Yonai Mitsumasa

  • Tōgō Heihachirō

  • Koga Mineichi

  • Nagano Osami

Answer

Koga Mineichi was the successor to Yamamoto Isoroku as Commander-in-Chief of the Combined Fleet. He was a skilled naval aviator and had a strong command presence. However, he was also a bit of a maverick and was not always seen eye-to-eye with his superiors. He was killed in a plane crash in April 1944, just as the Battle of the Philippine Sea was beginning.
