Ivan Bagramyan was born on 2 December 1897 in Tbilisi, Russian Empire (now Tbilisi, Georgia). He was a Soviet military commander and a Marshal of the Soviet Union. He fought in World War I, the Russian Civil War, and World War II. After the war, he was appointed commander-in-chief of the Soviet forces in the Far East.
