Lij Iyasu was 35 years old when he died in 1916. He was the emperor of Ethiopia from 1913 to 1916. He was deposed by his cousin, Tafari Makonnen, who later became Emperor Haile Selassie I. Iyasu was a controversial figure who was accused of being a Christian convert and of being sympathetic to the Italians, who had invaded Ethiopia in 1896. He was also accused of being mentally unstable.
